Frequently Asked Questions

Why Choose Private Therapy?

Many times children do not qualify for speech therapy services in a school  setting even though they have a speech sound disorder or families may be looking for a more personalized experience.  Families also enjoy the convenience of therapy being brought to them and they like being a part of the process. The home activities that are provided help make therapy even more effective!

What Should I Expect From The Evaluation?

Evaluations typically last 30 - 90 minutes, depending on areas being assessed. A written report will be shared with you at the initial therapy appointment or mailed in the case of daycare.  If therapy is not deemed necessary, a written report will be mailed to you after the evaluation and no further appointments will be needed. Please note: your child may be referred to other professionals if, during the evaluation, they exhibit difficulties beyond the scope of practice of the evaluating therapist.

What Is The Process?

  1. Initial contact is made with the office

  2. Consultation by phone or video

  3. Speech evaluation if warranted

  4. Speech therapy sessions, if appropriate, based on the results of the evaluation

How Do Speech Therapy Sessions Work?

If the evaluation determines that your child would benefit from therapy, you will then schedule your sessions based on the amount and frequency recommended after the evaluation. Sessions are typically recommended between 30-45 minutes one to three times per week, depending on individual needs.

How Do Consultations Work?

Initial 15 minute phone or video consultations are complimentary!  Call 630-286-9277 or make an appointment.  Consultations are a great way to discuss any previous evaluations or therapies your child may have had, share current concerns, ask questions, and get to know one another.  If the consultation results in a recommendation for an evaluation (or you already have a referral from your pediatrician), you will be asked to fill out paperwork prior to the evaluation.
